Appearances

Kumiko is a teenager who is quite short and physically weak. Her hair is baby blue and some was inside back with a black and white scarf, her hair color—in fact is quite unusual for most people. Her bangs are straight, with both sides pinned back using X-shaped hair clips. She wears a white shirt with a black lace-trimmed jacket. She carries a bag containing two plushies: a blue rabbit (Mashumaro) and a yellow cat (Tasogare). She is also wore white socks and black shoes.

Personality

Kumiko seemed quiet and gentle when I first met her. However, as time passed and she began to open up and feel comfortable, she became cheerful and sweet, even childlike. She can be blunt at times, but she doesn't mean to hurt anyone; it's just a reflex. Kumiko also rarely speaks first unless spoken to first. Although she seems to try to hide her feelings whenever she feels uneasy, the expression on her face cannot lie. Even though she can often blend in with others, Kumiko is a very closed-off person because she is afraid of being hurt.

People think she is soft-hearted, but she can hold a grudge and is very sensitive. Kumiko is also the type who puts others first, rather than herself. Kumiko sees herself as two-faced and evil, but she does not realize that the kindness she shows as her mask is actually her true personality. She seems to like helping others because she cannot bear to see them suffer. However, on the other hand, once she hates someone, she doesn't even want to breathe in the same room as that person.

Kumiko is also a hard worker, especially when it comes to things she likes, such as art and gaming. In addition, even though she is a hardcore otaku, Kumiko is completely oblivious when someone likes her romantically. Kumiko felt she was unworthy of love, but she tried hard to make the people around her like her because she was afraid of being abandoned.

History

Kumiko was adopted by the Akasaki family at a very young age, 6 years old. From childhood, because of her strange hair, her father often beat her, as did her mother and brother, who isolated her. Knowing about the violence committed by their neighbors, the Akasaki family sued the Nikishima family. Custody was granted to the Akasaki family and Kumiko was officially adopted into it. She feels really guilty about it at first, but gradually change into acceptance after Naoto reassured her that it was alright.

Because she did not receive proper care from her biological family and suffered from asthma, Kumiko was hospitalized for several years. There, she met Sakura and began trying to befriend him. At first, the child refused, but Kumiko was very insistent on playing with him. She would sometimes sneak out of the hospital just to talk to Sakura, who was hiding near the hospital, only to end up being scolded by him. Kumiko considered herself close to Sakura.

Until one day, her illness worsened and she was referred to another hospital. Kumiko was unable to say goodbye to Sakura, who assumed that Kumiko had abandoned him. Kumiko then lived in Makochi for two years and accidentally ran into Sakura again, who had also moved there. Their reunion occurred just as Kumiko was confusedly searching for a cafe and was helped by Sakura and another student from class 1-1 when she was almost forcibly dragged away by some thugs.

Since then, Kumiko has been happy to follow Sakura everywhere. And it turns out that the rich people's house near Sakura's house is the residence of Kumiko's family.
